The accident was classified the crash as a mass casualty incident because of the number of people on the bus per Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer. He said about 15 people were on the bus. The driver was trapped after the collision and transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, according to Metro. He was later upgraded to stable condition. Eleven others were transported to local hospitals with minor nonlife-threatening injuries.
