Machinery Rescue Awareness

Prince George’s County firefighters had to sedate a man and maneuver his legs out of a dye machine at a Laurel-area mulch plant.
Participants will learn how to respond at the Awareness Level for incidents involving personnel who have become trapped, entangled or pinned in various types of machinery. This course will provide emergency responders with the knowledge and skills required to respond at an Awareness Level to machinery rescue incidents. The definition for an Awareness Level response is described in National Fire Protection Association Standard 1670, Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents, 2009 Edition.
This Awareness Level training program will help responders to protect themselves and their patients during machinery rescue incidents. This course should take approximately 1 hour to complete. At the end of the course, you will have to complete a quiz. In order to receive a certificate, you will have to receive a minimum score of 70%. After achieving 70% or greater you are able to print out your certificate.
Main Topics Covered in this Course Include:
- Hazards of Machinery
- Terminology and Levels of Training
- Rescue Scene Management
- Basic Emergency Medical Services
Michigan State University (Emergency Response Solutions), in conjunction with Industrial Safety Consultants, Inc., has developed several online Awareness Level training programs for public and private sector emergency responders.
At this time MSU is offering ALL of these programs at no cost. Some of these programs can be used for required refresher training. Funding for these programs is generated through a federal grant. Electronic certificates are available for printing to those who complete each course with a passing grade.
