In early 2020, the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, NY responded a trench collapse with a victim with their legs buried. The first apparatus was on scene in less than 4 minutes from dispatch and reported two patients buried up to their waists and requested a technical rescue team. Both patients were extricated and transported to the hospital. Make sure you checkout the posts below for more details and pictures.

A Fredonia DPW worker was flown to the hospital with “crush-related injuries” after being rescued from a trench. The victim was working when the sidewall of the trench collapsed on top of the man, leaving him buried chest high.

HCESTC’S Trench Rescue Technician Class

The 2021 Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center (HCESTC) Trench Rescue Technician class was a 24 hour program that taught students how to shore intersecting trenches (L and T), deep trenches >8′, and “repair hole” excavations.  The first day are virtual presentations followed by 2 hands on training days.
