Advanced Trench Rescue Shoring Symposium (Day 1)
Tech Rescuers from across the globe are at the Operating Engineers Local 324 Training Center in Howell, Michigan for some trench training from Ron Zawlocki. Here are some photos of Day 1 at MUSAR Training Foundation’s Advanced Trench Rescue Shoring Symposium from Gary Breuer from Flemington New Jersey. Clydesdale Horse Rescue
Large Animal Rescue
Large animal rescues are another call that could happen almost anywhere. Large animals are transported on the highways and back roads increasing the chance that your department may respond to one. After Rescue Co. #1 (Lexington, KY) posted pictures of their tech rescue training of large animals, I did some searching around the old inter-web. First off, if you haven’t read the post on their Facebook page about their Large Animal Rescue training you can find it below:
Secondly, you should be following the Rescue Co. #1 page because they post a bunch of great content on training that can aid any department.
The Medicine Hat Firefighter, from Alberta, Canada posted about a unique large animal rescue than had. A horse in a trailer fell through the floor, with its rear legs becoming trapped between the pavement and the trailer.
Firefighters were called this morning to a Clydesdale horse that had fallen through the floor of it’s trailer while being transported. Firefighters used lifting bags, cribbing, and shoring equipment to lift and stabilize the trailer to allow the horse to stand up on its own, and give room for all four horses to exit the trailer.
For additional information, you can watch firefighters speak about horse rescue.

One Facebook page you should follow is Heavy Rescue Germany Not only does their page provide great training information, but the lead instructor behind it, Irakli West, travels the world to learn from many different firefighters and tech rescue folks.
Vehicle in a Trench
Vehicle in a Trench
Never assume that trench rescue will only be a worker. Trenches are often dug along roadways and vehicle traffic often drives by unimpeded. Below are a few pictures from a training scenario that involved an occupant trapped in their vehicle in a trench.
On the Paratech AcmeThread Struts below, notice the Velcro on the collar. This is a tip that is taught by Ron Zawlocki from the MUSAR Training Foundation. Learn more about this tip here: Velcro on Trench Struts
